Senior Test Engineer

About the Role

As a Senior Test Engineer at ITQUAN, you are the quality referent on client engagements. You define the test strategy, build and maintain the automation that supports it, and work side by side with development teams to prevent defects rather than only detect them. You will move between projects, so adaptability and clear communication matter as much as technical skill. Depending on the engagement, you work remotely, from the client site in Belgium, or in a mix of both.

Your Responsibilities

• Define, document, and execute risk-based test strategies aligned with client priorities
• Design, build, and maintain automated test suites for UI, API, and regression layers
• Test and validate REST and SOAP APIs, including contract, data, and error-handling scenarios
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and keep them fast, stable, and trustworthy
• Perform functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testing on critical journeys
• Analyse requirements early and challenge them to remove ambiguity before development starts
• Manage test data and environments in coordination with development and operations teams
• Report defects clearly and track quality indicators such as coverage, defect leakage, and release stability
• Coach client teams and junior colleagues on testing practices and automation standards
• Communicate quality status and risks to both technical and business stakeholders

Required Profile

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in software testing or quality engineering, including hands-on automation
• Solid API testing experience: REST and SOAP, JSON and XML, status codes and authentication, with tools such as Postman, REST Assured, or equivalent
• Test automation expertise with at least one modern framework: Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress
• Working knowledge of at least one programming language: Java, Python, or JavaScript / TypeScript
• Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and daily use of Git
• Comfortable with SQL for data validation, and with test data management practices
• Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams, using Jira or a comparable tool
• ISTQB Foundation certification or equivalent practical knowledge
• French and English are both required: professional working proficiency, written and spoken. You will work with French-speaking client teams and English-language documentation and stakeholders
• Autonomy, analytical mindset, and the communication skills expected in a client-facing consultancy role

Nice to Have

• Dutch language skills, a real advantage for engagements in Flanders and Brussels
• Performance testing experience with JMeter, k6, or Gatling
• BDD practices with Cucumber or SpecFlow
• Mobile test automation with Appium
• Containers and cloud platforms: Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, or AWS
• Security testing fundamentals and awareness of the OWASP Top 10
• ISTQB Advanced Level or Agile Tester certification
• Previous consultancy experience in a regulated sector such as finance, insurance, or transport
